Iredell County Health Department wanted to help young children talk about their emotions. Mental health is a hard topic to explain to kids. The video needed a character they would trust and a story simple enough to follow. It also had to model what to do when a friend feels sad.
02
We created Glowbie, a character whose color changes with each mood. Yellow for happy, blue for calm, purple for concern, green for hope. Glowbie meets a boy having a bad day and helps him name his feelings. By the end he remembers his happy place, his dog. Color does the teaching, so kids can follow along easily.

The script moves from one mood to the next. Here is the path it takes, panel by panel.

We storyboarded the script panel by panel before animation began. Each panel paired a line of dialogue with a clear action. Pick a panel to see the sketch, the script and the action.
"Hey friend. Feeling a little down? Wanna talk about it?"
Glowbie approaches the boy.
